MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A referendum on the ballot May 2nd would improve upon School City of Mishawaka's 2016 operating referendum.
If passed, it would allow School City of Mishawaka to enhance student and staff safety with school resource officer in ever building. The district would invest in security camera upgrades and enhance network security with the technology department. These dollars would also go toward staff retention and recruitment for all K-12 classrooms.
"6 more officers would cover all seven of our buildings each day...we can't emphasize the security component enough, especially in light of a few unfortunate tragic events. We believe that every student, every staff member that comes to school in the morning should go home safely after school. We want to make sure that we're doing our part to uphold that," said Superintendent Theodore Stevens.
Voters can learn more about the referendum at a town hall meeting Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at Mishawaka City Council Hall.
