SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Brittney Baily, host for B100 radio, partnered with South Bend First Nazarene Church to hold a donation drive for David Smith, father of the six children who passed away following Sunday's house fire.
Community members brought in dozens of items for Smith, ranging from non-perishable food items to clothes and hygiene products.
David Smith himself attended the event and held hands with pastors, friends, and volunteers to pray and remember the lives lost.
Baily, the organizer, says she felt personally obligated to support the Smith family in any way she could, partnering with her home church to set up the drive in just a few short days.
“So, on Monday when it was released that there were five children who died, I can’t tell you how heavy it was on my heart to do something.” said Baily.
A vigil will be held outside the Smith family home Sunday at 12 p.m. for those interested in paying their respects to the family.
