Construction phase one of three to start on Benton Center Road

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. - Berrien County Road Department announced multiple phases of construction starting soon on Benton Center Road as part of a road widening and resurfacing project.

Starting Thursday, April 4, Berrien Road Department crews will be working to replace a cross tube at the Kelly and Miller Drain.

The work is supposed to last one day and will result in Benton Center Road being closed to traffic between Napier Avenue and Empire.

Motorists are asked to seek alternative routes until the road has been reopened to thru traffic. This is in preparation for further major road improvements.

Phase one of three on Benton Center Road's resurfacing and widening will start on Monday, April 8.

During phase one, Benton Center Road will be closed to thru traffic between Napier Avenue and Britain Avenue.

Motorists should seek alternative routes or use the signed detour route.

Officials anticipate phase one to take approximately one to two weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Phase one's detour includes Napier Avenue to Crystal Avenue to Britain Avenue.

Phase two will begin depending on when phase one is completed.

During phase two Benton Center Road will be closed to thru traffic between Britain Avenue and Territorial Road.

Motorists should seek alternative routes or utilize the signed detour route once phase two begins.

Once work begins, officials anticipate phase two to take approximately one to two weeks as well, weather permitting.

Phase two's detour routes include Britain Avenue to Paul Avenue to Highland Road to Territorial Road and Territorial Road to Euclid Avenue to Britain Avenue.

During phase three, Benton Center Road will be closed to thru traffic between Britain Avenue and Territorial Road.

The start date is subject to progression of phases one and two.

Motorists should seek alternative routes or utilize the signed detour route once work begins.

Phase three is also expected to take one to two weeks, weather permitting.

Phase three's detour route will be Territorial Road to Euclid Avenue to Red Arrow Highway.
