SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Western Avenue between Harris and Walnut Streets was closed Wednesday afternoon due to a crash involving a semi and a passenger vehicle.
According to officials a semi was traveling east on Western when it hit the passenger side of an SUV shortly before 3:00 p.m.
82-year-old Edward Vegh, a passenger of the SUV, died at the hospital just before 6:00 p.m., but his wife who was driving only suffered minor injuries.
Officials say the driver of the semi was unharmed.
The crash happened at the bridge, near Walnut.
This accident is under investigation and anyone who witnessed it is asked to contact the South Bend Police Department.
