Woman killed in fall from parking garage at Memorial Hospital

A woman died after she fell from the parking garage at Memorial Hospital around 1 p.m. Thursday, according to St. Joseph County dispatch.

Memorial Hospital employees were on scene right after it happened. Several people, including bystanders, attempted CPR, but it was unsuccessful.

Police blocked off the area with crime scene tape and placed obstacles so bystanders couldn't see the victim.

The victim was identified as 52-year-old Monica Witsken.

The County Metro Homicide Unit is assisting Memorial Police with the investigation. The incident is being treated as a suicide.

“We went up checked all of the floors to see if there are any kind of scuff marks or anything to indicate a fight or if she was thrown off, we found nothing like that,” CMHU Commander Tim Corbett said.

The coroner's office responded to the scene. An autopsy will be conducted on Friday in Fort Wayne.

The woman's name has not been released.

“It is not a Memorial employee. We’re working with the coroner and as well as Memorial Hospital to help identify that person," Corbett said.

Memorial Hospital released this statement: "Memorial Hospital personnel responded immediately and admirably. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased during this difficult time."
