Deputies investigating burglary, fire at home on 6th Road

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- A burglar broke into a home on 6th Road early Monday morning, stole items from the home, then set it on fire, according to the Marshall County Sheriff's Department.

At 3:20 a.m. on March 12, a driver passing by a home in the 11000 block of 6th Road called 9-1-1 to report a fire.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Department and La Paz Fire Department responded to the scene and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence.

Firefighters from Plymouth, Bremen and Polk fire departments assisted with extinguishing the fire.

Once the fire was out, the sheriff's department began an investigation into the fire, which was deemed suspicious.

Deputies said someone broke into the home, stole some items and set the fire.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

The residence suffered heavy damage as a result of the fire.

The State Fire Marshal is also investigating.
