Deputies respond to personal injury accident in Cass County

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- Cass County deputies responded to a single vehicle crash Saturday morning.

At approximately 12:32 a.m. a crash occurred at the intersection of Five Points Road and Grange Street in Mason Township, Michigan.

Stephanie Akers, 47, of Elkhart, Indiana was traveling northbound on Five Points Road approaching Grange Street.

Authorities say, Akers ran through a stop sign on the corner and struck a tree.

Porter Ambulance transported Akers to Elkhart General Hospital.

Officials believe a medical issue may have been a factor in the crash.

Seatbelts were worn at the time of the accident.

The case remains under investigation.

Agencies assisting included Porter Ambulance and Porter Fire Department.
