Early morning fire in Elkhart Saturday

ELKHART, Ind. – Emergency crews responded to a house fire in the 600 block of S. 8th Street on Saturday morning, the Elkhart Fire Department reported.

At 1:17 a.m., the fire department was called to a single-family residence for a report of a fire.

The fire was called in by an Elkhart police officer who was in the area.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the front of the house.

Firefighters began working on putting the fire out as officers with the Elkhart Police Department sheltered the occupant of the house from the weather.

No house occupants or firefighters were reported injured at the time of the fire.

The fire was deemed under control after about two hours.
