SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The lockdown at the St. Joseph County Jail, which began November 15, may have ended Monday afternoon.
Lockdown conditions keep inmates inside their cells for up to 24 hours a day, typically with one hour of allotted time outside.
ABC57 reached out to the St. Joe County Jail media contact five times throughout the day on Monday and received no response.
Several people with family members inside the jail commented on the lockdown, claiming that their loved ones have had basic necessities like shaving, eating outside of their cell, having time outdoors and attending Bible study taken away.
ABC57 also spoke with a woman recently bonded out of the Jail who says that inmates were not told why the lockdown was occurring or when it would end.
An aunt of one of the inmates told ABC57 that her nephew called her around 4:30 p.m. Monday to tell her that the lockdown has been lifted.
Again, ABC57 was not able to confirm this, although the jail spokesperson stated last week that the lockdown was expected to be fully lifted sometime early this week.
