Fatal motorcycle crash in Cass County

CASS COUNTY, Mich. - An iPhone crash alert around 2:00 a.m. sent Michigan State Police (MSP) Niles Post troopers to the scene at M-51 Hwy near Maple Lane in Howard Township, according to Michigan State Police. 

After a search, the rider and his motorcycle were found. 

MSP determined that the 43-year-old man from Dowagiac, MI veered of the road, lost control and hit an embankment, causing him to be thrown on impact. 

The motorcyclist, not wearing a helmet, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene by first responders. 

This crash remains an open investigation.
