Cause of TriState fire still under investigation

ELKHART, Ind. -- A Tri State Inc. building in the 2600 block of Old US 20 was destroyed by a fire that started late Tuesday evening.

The fire started before midnight Tuesday and burned for several hours before it was extinguished.

Because the structure was unstable, the firefighters fought the fire from the exterior.

Very little is left of the building and its contents.

Because of the weather conditions and the condition of the remaining structure, fire officials had difficulty with the investigation.

They may call in an excavator to help take a detailed search for the cause.

Firefighters also said the vehicles inside the building were legally stored.

The company will have a meeting with employees Wednesday afternoon to determine their next steps.
