SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Firefighters are investigating a fire they say started in the bedroom of a South Bend home on Portage Ave. and Diamond Ave. The family escaped with no injuries.
The battalion chief with the South Bend Fire Department said the call came in around 10:30 p.m.
Firefighters had put out the flames by 10:45 p.m.
The chief said at least one adult and five children were affected by the fire.
A representative with the Red Cross said they will be paying for a hotel room for the family to spend the night.
The home sustained minimal damage.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
