Inmate Death Investigation at St. Joseph County Jail

UPDATE: State Police identified the woman as 51-year-old Erica Williams of South Bend. Autopsy results are pending but police do not suspect foul play.
ORIGINAL STORY:
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Indiana State Police are investigating the death of an inmate at the St. Joseph County jail.
Police were contacted at 5:41 p.m. on Sunday night, Sept. 3, after jail staff discovered a female inmate suffering from a suspected medical emergency.
The staff performed life-saving efforts until emergency medical technicians took over, but despite their efforts, the inmate passed away.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 5.
