BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. - An inmate at the Berrien County Jail died after a reported medical episode Tuesday morning, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim was identified as 40-year-old Robert Graves of Benton Harbor.

Graves was first discovered going in and out of consciousness while in his cell on Tuesday, just after 10 a.m.

CPR was performed on him on the way to the hospital, but he was ultimately pronounced dead at 11:21 a.m.

The preliminary autopsy showed a slightly enlarged heart but no signs of trauma.

A final autopsy will be performed to determine his official cause of death.

Graves was brought to the jail on Monday on a number of charges, including operating while intoxicated. He was taken to the hospital upon being arrested and cleared by medical staff before being taken to jail, law enforcement said.
