Investigation into string of thefts leads to arrest of Michigan City man

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. - The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating several thefts from motor vehicles since early August, and on Friday morning, deputies arrested a Michigan City man in connection with the crime.
Cleophis Swanson, 31, was arrested for theft and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle.
Early Friday morning, deputies began investigating a string of thefts in and around the 4600 block of Vintage Court.
As deputies searched the area, they also found an abandoned vehicle.
Deputies waited until the vehicle left the area, established probable cause, and pulled the vehicle over.
During the traffic stop, deputies found evidence linking the driver, identified as Swanson, to several recent thefts.
