IU of South Bend gets set for commencement

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Nearly 900 graduates at IU South Bend will walk the stage and turn their tassels this evening.

Graduates from 32 Indiana counties, 15 states and 23 countries will receive their degrees tonight as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.

In the 2024 IU South Bend class, there are two sets of twins, and the age range is vast, with the oldest graduate being 67 years old, while the youngest, is just 20 years old, and happens to be student keynote speaker.

Emilee Edmonds will be graduating with a double major in physics and mathematics. Her impressive resume includes being student body president, president of the Physics Club, an Honors Program intern and a chair for the All-University Student Association.

Edmonds says it's all now finally hitting her at once, but says she is honored to deliver the speech.

Commencement events kick off at 6:30 PM, followed by the official ceremony at 7 pm at the Joyce Center on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.
