Jury takes 25 minutes to convict man of sexually abusing young girl

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- In 2007, a 9-year-old girl was sexually abused in her own home.Ten years later her abuser was convicted and is facing a mandatory sentence of 25 years in prison.

It took the jury just 25 minutes to find 67-year-old George Hanson guilty of five counts of first degree sexual penetration on Wednesday.

The victim, now 19, testified about what happened to her and the impact it has had on her life. She said she has difficulty sleeping and often has flashbacks.

The guilty verdict means Hanson will be sentenced to at least 25 years.

“The defendant’s days of sexual corruption are over. This verdict assures a mandatory 25 year sentence.  His first chance at parole will be at age 93," Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz said in a press release.

Hanson did not testify at trial.

Sentencing is scheduled for October 6.
