Knox police chief retiring after 30 years on the force

KNOX, Ind. -- As first reported by WKVI, Harold Smith will be stepping down from his post as Knox City Police Chief in early 2024. 

According to WKVI, Smith informed the city that Jan. 1 of next year will mark 30 years of him being with the department and his final day will be Jan. 23.

Before Smith came to Knox, he worked for five years with the North Judson Police Department.

He has been Knox City Police Chief for a total of 10 years.

The Knox City Police Department shared the news on Facebook Wednesday morning. 

"Congratulations Harold!!!!! Enjoy your retirement," wrote John Spurk.

"Well thank you for your many years of service and good luck in your future plans you will be missed my friend," wrote James Bailey.
