NOW: ’Love is love’ is the theme for River Bend Quilt show

ST. JOSEPH CO., Ind.- The River Bend Quilt Guild is hosting their 19th annual Quilt Show at the downtown Mishawaka Library.

Anyone who stops by the Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library during the quilt show can cast a voting ballot for their favorite quilts. After the votes are tallied, the River Bend Quilt Guild will announce the top three winning quilts, in two categories, on their Facebook page.

Show organizer, Deb Palguta says, "these quilts are all made by people in our guild. We have members of all ages. We have members who are just learning to quilt. We have members who've been quilting for years. It's a wonderful place to go to get inspiration. If you're a new quilter it's a great place to learn about quilting. Because we love sharing our information with folks and our experience. And we have fun. The meetings are a blast. We have fun getting together and quilting and sharing our experiences our quilting experiences."

Three quilts will be excluded from the ballots this year and will be donated to the LGBTQ+ Center in South Bend.

Mishawaka guild member, Alyssa Demetriakis sewed three quilts for donation.

When asked to share her thoughts on why the River Quilt Guild chose to focus on LGBTQ+ this year she said, “much like the people in the LGBTQ+ community, no two blocks are alike. Each made lovingly by a guild member celebrates their individuality.”

The event is free admission and began on August 24 and runs through August 26.
