Memorial plaque placed to honor fallen firefighter Jamie Middlebrook

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -

It has been nearly eight months since New Carlisle's Assistant Fire Chief Jamie Middlebrook was killed while fighting a fire. A memorial plaque has been placed in the center of town in his honor.

The assistant fire chief died while fighting a commercial fire back in August.

Since then, his family and friends have been working on a memorial to honor Middlebrook's legacy. They wanted his memorial in a place where the whole town could see it.

The memorial is in New Carlisle's Memorial Park, by the town's only stop light.

"Everybody did their best to memorialize Jamie, and that's what we've done here," said Gary Lawson, a close friend of Middlebrook.

The plaque reads, in part, "Jamie devoted his life to the health, safety, and well-being of our community for 21 years".
