South Bend, Ind. – Continuing their efforts to ease school bus transportation woes, the district will fund a new recruitment service.
At Monday’s SBCSC meeting, the board approved a contract agreement with Express Employment Professionals.
The staffing agency will charge the district $130 per week for up to 24 weeks for each driver hire they provide.
“They have basically the resources to do this for their entire day. That is their focus again to get us individuals to drive the bus good quality candidates and they have every resource to do it,” says Transportation Director Juan Martinez-Legus.
Filling those positions has been challenging for the district to do on their own.
“I personally don’t want to be a month from now without enough bus drivers and having the same complaints from our constituents that we can’t get the kids to school on time. If we can’t get the kids to school on time they aren’t learning,” says Board President Stan Wrubble
Martinez- Legus says he is hoping the company will be able to fill 15 driver positions by the first day of school on August 16th.
