SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Despite less-than-favorable conditions throughout the first half of the weekend, Notre Dame fans showed up and showed out in support of the Irish.
Tailgaters battled several inches of rain, heavy wind gusts and chilly temperatures while outside of Notre Dame Stadium, with several fans saying that it would take a natural disaster to keep them from attending.
"The only reason we wouldn't be out here is if there wasn't a football game." said Justin Buettner, a tailgater and ND fan.
While the weather conditions weren't unbearable, fans still had to go to extra lengths to ensure that their tents stayed put, placing metal holders on the ground along with sandbags.
While some braved the weather, other Notre Dame fans took to local bars like the Taphouse on the Edge where they could stay away from the elements.
Owner Jeff Morauski says that rain games at homes are best for business as it drives more fair-weather fans inside to eat and drink. Morauski noted that while there were more fans in town three weeks ago when Ohio State visited, plenty of fans still showed their support, both prior to and after Notre Dame's win.
