UPDATE: SBPD officer's Domestic Battery charge dismissed, jury trial canceled
UPDATE: Robert Neufer's charge of Domestic Battery Committed in the Presence of a Child has been dismissed without prejudice according to court documents.
Neufer's jury trial was canceled after initially being set for Aug. 27.
Neufer's no contact order was also terminated.
ORIGINAL STORY: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- An off-duty South Bend police officer was arrested in the early morning Wednesday, says the South Bend Police Department.
The 29-year-old officer, Robert Neufer, was arrested on a preliminary charge of Domestic Battery Committed in the Presence of a Child following a call to the South Bend Police around 3:30 a.m.
As of 8:34 a.m. Wednesday, Neufer has been relieved of duty pending further investigations and awaits a formal charging decision.
Neufer was sworn in as an officer for the South Bend Police Department in 2023.
