Law enforcement identify cause of Benton Harbor residential fire that killed one

UPDATE: Law enforcement identified the victim of the fire as Deangelo Porter. The cause of the fire was electrical, according to the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety. 


ORIGINAL STORY: 

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - One person is dead after a fire broke out at a residence on McAlister Street Tuesday night, according to the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety.

Firefighters were called out to the 700 block of the street just after 10 p.m. for the incident.

When crews arrived, the second floor was engulfed in flames, and two of the three residents had made it out.

Those residents told emergency responders their 39-year-old son was still inside.

When firefighters could get into the home, they found the man dead from smoke and heat-related injuries in an upstairs bedroom.

The two parents were taken to the hospital for their injuries.
