Developing Downtowns: New Carlisle
GOSHEN, Ind. — Nearly 200 people came out to the Elkhart County Courthouse on Saturday to show their support for a permanent ceasefire in the Israeli-Palestine conflict.
Peace is the ultimate goal of those that gathered, and organizers say that non-violent action is the best way to achieve that peace.
During the rally, people shared stories aloud from those currently residing in war-torn Palestine, sang songs of peace together and led chants calling for Palestinian freedom.
Following the singing, organizers led the large group around the courthouse grounds in a peaceful march while chanting.
Leaders of the event say that they hope people who have limited knowledge of the conflict educate themselves with both perspectives, as they believe harmful narratives are being spread about the Palestinian people.
While Saturday's event drew good attendance, organizers hope they can continue to bring more people in to participate in a world action day on December 19 or a similar rally in Elkhart next month.
