Semi overturns, I-65 northbound lanes closed for hours

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. – Traffic on I-65 was held up early Saturday morning because of an overturned semi hauling 42,000 pounds of bagged concrete mix.

Indiana State Police say northbound lanes on I-65 to westbound I-80 closed at around 3 a.m.

ISP’s investigation showed a semi-trailer entered the curve to the ramp at the high rate of speed, causing it to turn over and slide approximately 300 feet before coming to a rest across the roadway.

Because of the semi’s heavy concrete load, it took crews hours to clean up the crash.

The northbound lanes of I-65 reopened around 6 a.m.

The driver was not injured.
