South Bend woman charged with murdering daughter on Ardmore Trail

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - A South Bend woman has been charged with murder in connection to a shooting on the 3900 block of Ardmore Trail. 

South Bend Police officers responded to the Ardmore Trail residence, at 11:54 p.m. Sunday, December 10, finding 52-year-old Zawondra Lee deceased inside. 

Tuesday, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's office charged 68-year-old Shirley Lee, the mother of the victim, with two counts: murder and voluntary manslaughter. 

S. Lee was also charged with a firearm enhancement. 

According to the South Bend Police Department Detective Bureau, the two women were in a verbal altercation and S. Lee said she retrieved her handgun and shot Zawondra in anger. 

If convicted of these charges, S. Lee could face around 100 years behind bars with 45-65 years for murder, 10-30 years for voluntary manslaughter as a level 2 felony and 10-20 years for a firearm enhancement. 

She is currently in custody at the St. Joseph County Jail, with an expected arraignment on Wednesday, December 13.
