Developing Downtowns: New Carlisle
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – South Bend residents took advantage of the long-awaited snow on Saturday for opening day of the public tubing season at St. Patrick's Park.
The tubing sessions typically start earlier in the year, but last week's bitter cold and previous lack of snow pushed their start-dates back to Saturday.
Thankfully, families came out in full force for opening day, with all available tickets sold, according to Leisure Services Manager, Michael Slattery.
"It's been great, we sold all of our tickets for today, and people are already asking for tomorrow. Been very busy today, people are finally getting out and enjoying the snow that's finally arrived!" said Slattery.
The gate fee and cost per person for tubing is $5 and tubing is allowed from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, snow-permitting.
With ideal conditions right now, the park expects to be open for the remainder of the weekend and will keep the hills ready for tubing all the way through early March.
For a look at the hill status and whether or not tubing is available, you can visit the Parks Dept. Facebook page for more information.
