SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- This year, the South Bend Community School Corporation's media program won 11 Indiana Association of School Broadcasters awards, including “News Media School of the Year” for the second year in a row, and now students are getting together to showcase their talents to the local public.

"The showcase will feature some of the award-winning projects, including short films, news shows, commercials, and music videos," organizers said. "The evening will include some special recognitions and presentations for the students."

The guest speaker for the showcase will be program alum, Alex Almanza, who currently works for WTHR-TV in Indianapolis and will be graduating from Ball State University in May.

This is the first event of its kind in South Bend.

“This is an idea I’ve wanted to do for a while now, and I’m excited to finally have a special night to showcase our student video work on the big screen,” said Media Instructor Tim Richardson. "Principal Henderson has always been a huge supporter of what we do and we are grateful to have Riley High School hosting this event."

Organizers say the showcase promises to be an unforgettable experience for attendees, including friends, family, members of the school community, and the wider public.

"It's a unique opportunity to support and celebrate the next generation of media talent emerging from South Bend," said SBCSC Communications Director Andrew Goetz.

The showcase will take place at the Riley High School Auditorium in South Bend, on Friday, May 17, at 7 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information about the showcase, email Richardson at [email protected].
