MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A tanker truck transporting gasoline was involved in a crash with a cement truck at the intersection of Lincolnway and N. Church Street in downtown Mishawaka.

The tanker has leaked gasoline onto the roadway at the intersection.

Several buildings were evacuated because of the spill.

“It’s a very hazardous situation of course and I guess utmost would be the fire danger of course of sparks or whatever of that nature. The fumes are very strong if you get down wind over there and just the corrosion what gasoline can do to everything it touches. So yeah we have to contain it so it doesn’t go anywhere else until we can get it mopped up," said Police Chief Kenneth Witkowski.

The crash happened around 2 p.m.
