Serious crash on Indiana Toll Road sends five to hospital

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Five people were injured in a crash on the Indiana Toll Road on Monday night. 

The Indiana State Police responded to the crash just after 8 p.m. EST. 

The incident occurred when a 2021 Chrysler Pacifica was attempting to exit the Toll Road when it was rear-ended by a 2023 International straight truck. 

One passenger was ejected from the Chrysler during the crash and was taken to South Bend's Memorial Hospital and treated for serious injuries. 

The three other passengers and driver were also transferred to Memorial Hospital and were treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash. 

The Westbound lanes were reopened at approximately 9 and 9:30 p.m., respectively. 

Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected factors in the crash.
