SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Investigators have released the name of the person who was suspected of being involved in the fatal accident at Vassar Avenue and O'Brien Street on Tuesday.
St. Joseph County Prosecutor Ken Cotter said the suspect has been identified as Reka Phillips.
Police have been looking for Phillips, but have been unable to locate her.
Tuesday afternoon, a Dodge Durango SUV was struck by a Chrysler 300 at the intersection of Vassar and O'Brien.
One of the occupants of the SUV, 6-year-old Maliyah Davis, was killed in the crash.
The driver of the Chrysler 300 stopped, came back, looked around, then fled the scene on foot, Cotter said.
The law requires a person to stay and give information or render aid.
Cotter said if she had stayed, she would not be facing any charges. She was going the speed limit and the crash was not her fault, he said.
Because she fled the scene, she is facing a charge of leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
If you have any information about her whereabouts, please contact Crime Stoppers.
