Babysitter charged in death of toddler

A New Paris woman has been charged in the October 2014 death of 19-month old Kirk Coleman.

According to the probable cause affidavit, 58-year-old Jackie Rolston called 911 to report the toddler she was watching was unresponsive and that he had choked on food.

When paramedics arrived, they found Coleman unresponsive but didn't find any blockages in his mouth.

Coleman died at the hospital.

The forensic pathologist who conducted the autopsy determined the child died as a result of blunt force trauma. A pediatrician who specializes in child abuse concurred and said Coleman's death was a result of abusive head trauma, not choking.

The investigation revealed no one else had access to the child in the time frame the trauma occurred.

Rolston has been charged with one count of battery resulting in the death of a child.
