Mishawaka doctor sentenced for dealing controlled substance

A Mishawaka doctor who was accused of writing prescriptions for controlled substances without ever seeing the patient pleaded guilty in court on Tuesday.

Dr. Charles Myers pleaded guilty to one count of dealing schedule I, II, III controlled substance.

A second charge against him was dismissed.

Dr. Myers was sentenced to 15 years with eight years suspended.

The seven years in prison executed must be served by direct commitment to DuComb home detention.

He will be on probation for 15 years, through July 26, 2030.

Myers also must surrender his medical license and may not practice medicine during his executed sentence or during his probation.

He also must pay restitution to Medicaid in the amount of $3,752.71.
