Police called to women's underwear section of Wal-Mart for alleged shoplifting

South Bend Police were called to the Portage Road Wal-Mart just before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

When they arrived, police discovered Patricia Williams sitting in an electric scooter, with two pocket knives and women’s underwear.

According to store employees, Williams entered the store and was seen shoplifting jewelry, candy and clothing from the store.

Employees waited for her to exit the building before approaching her.

After store employees went to talk to Williams, she returned to the women’s underwear section of the store.

According to employees, they approached her again, which is when Williams pulled out a pocket knife and began swinging it at two of the store employees.

After police were called, Williams eventually pulled out a second knife and began swinging it at employees.

While police were on their way, Williams was walking around the store, and when she learned they were en route, she sat and waited in an electric scooter where she was then arrested without incident.

Williams is preliminarily charged with robbery and is being held at the St. Joseph County Jail with no bond.

According to the probable cause affidavit, her prior criminal history includes conviction for Voluntary Manslaughter in 1975 and two counts of Forgery in 1983. Williams was also convicted of Theft in 1993.
