CAPS breaks ground for new building

Child and Parent Services broke ground on Thursday for a new building.

Construction will start next week at the site.

The new project will cost $5.5 million, which is still cheaper than renovating the current space.

They were able to raise all the money in about ten months.

CAPS says after 20 years, they have outgrown the current space.

"The space they [children] are in to do their recovery work and to learn new ways of interacting with the world, is so critical. And the space and the sounds they hear can actually cause more trauma as opposed to creating an environment that they feel safe enough to address the things they need to address. So we cannot do the work we need to do as well unless we have the right kind of space,” says Candy Yoder, CAPS President.

The construction is scheduled to take more than a year.
