Defendants sentenced to over 100 years in prison for Kosciusko Co. double murder

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -

The two men convicted of killing Joshua Knisley and Tara Thornburg in February 2015 were each sentenced to over 100 years in prison on Wednesday.

Brandon Woody, Kyle Dehart and Thomas Hursey went to Thornburg's home on February 19 with the intention of stealing her marijuana, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Thornburg was shot in the head and survived until the following day. Knisley was shot in the head and died at the scene.

Woody and Dehart were sentenced Wednesday. Hursey's trial has not been scheduled.

Woody was sentenced to 60 years in prison for the first count of murder and 60 years in prison for the second count of murder.

The sentences are to be served consecutively.

Aggravating circumstances included the fact there were two victims, Woody was on probation at the time of the murders, Woody has a history of delinquent and criminal behavior, he violated conditions of pretrial release, that he failed to accept responsibility or remorse and that he was friends with the victims.

There were no mitigating circumstances.

Kyle Dehart was sentenced to 55 years for the first count of murder, 55 years for the second count of murder and one year for obstruction of justice. The two murder sentences will run consecutive. The one year sentence will run concurrently with the first murder charge.

Dehart's sentences are to run consecutive to sentences in one case from 2013, two from 2013 and one from 2015.

There were no mitigating circumstances.

Hursey has not been tried on the two counts of murder he is facing. His next court appearance is scheduled for November.
