Car slips off road onto frozen pond in South Bend

South Bend Fire and Police responded to a car on top of a restoration pond Friday afternoon.

The accident happened at a pond near Walmart on Portage Avenue in South Bend around noon.

Fire officials on scene said the driver ended up on the iced over pond after driving on the road and attempting to avoid a pedestrian. That's when the car hit ice and slid off of the road onto the top of the pond.

The driver was able to get out of the car quickly and walk up the hill away from the iced over pond.

He was the only one in the car at the time and no one was injured.

A tow truck then came to get the car out of the frozen pond and no damage was done.
