MISHAWAKA, Ind. --- A 17-year-old is in the hospital tonight with non-life-threatening injuries after accidentally shooting themselves in the leg.
Mishawaka Police Department responded to the McDonald’s on Lincolnway East shortly after 6 p.m. for a shots fired call.
Once officers arrived at the scene, they located a vehicle containing four juveniles.
One of the juveniles had accidentally shot himself in one of his legs.
The 17-year-old was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Sgt. Steve Headley states, “The Mishawaka Police Department stresses that guns are not toys. They must be treated with caution and handled responsibly. It is fortunate this particular incident did not end up worse than it has.”
