The first game of ACC play brings pressure by itself, but adding in history raises the stakes.
That was the case for Notre Dame men's basketball against Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon, as the Irish looked to earn Mike Brey his 393rd victory as head coach.
Despite a cold start, the Irish got the job done. They beat the Yellow Jackets 68-59, moving Brey into a tie with Digger Phelps for the most wins at Notre Dame.
All five starters scored in double-digits for the Irish, including 24 points from Bonzie Colson. In the first half, he became the eighth player in Notre Dame history with 1,500 points and 800 career rebounds.
Brey will have a chance to break the wins record next week, as Notre Dame will host North Carolina State on January 3 with a 2-0 conference record on the line.
