New developments in missing UVA student case

The man police believe played a key role in the disappearance of a missing University of Virginia student has been linked to a rape investigation from 12 years ago.

A police report shows Jesse Matthew was accused of raping a student at Liberty University back in 2002, but he was never charged.

Attorneys say the victim named Matthew as the attacker, but there wasn't enough evidence to file charges against him.

"The issue became one of consent. One where she said she hadn't consented, one where he said she had," said Michael Doucette, a commonwealth attorney.

Matthew is also at the center of an investigation involving another university in Virginia where Matthew was connected to a rape investigation  in 2003.
