Thursday night, Adams and Washington High Schools competed on the hardwood. However, both schools got some news about their shared home for football season.
South Bend Community School Corporation's school board approved a plan that would see $1.5 million in renovations to School Field.
Those proposed changes would include artificial field turf, as well as updating the lights and P.A. system among other improvements.
Both Washington and Adams play freshman, JV, and varsity football at School Field.
The hope is for funding to come primarily through donations. The idea of offering naming rights was also mentioned in order to attract donors.
Breakdown of proposed costs:
$900,000 for removal of natural grass turf, prep, and installation of artificial turf
$350,000 for replacement of existing field lighting
$100,000 for stadium substructure repairs and maintenance
$75,000 for installation of a ticket booth at the West entrance
$50,000 to update the public address system
$25,000 to modernize the concourse and concession areas.
