South Bend students learning about engineering

Students in South Bend schools are learning about engineering this week.

On Tuesday, students at Madison Primary Center learned about several Notre Dame engineering projects and clubs including the Notre Dame Rocket Team, ChemE Car and Robot Football.

The activities continue throughout the week at schools in the district.

Wednesday, Feb. 24, 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. - Riley High School
Notre Dame students will join Riley engineering students for lunch in the cafeteria.

Thursday, Feb. 25, 12:30-2 p.m. - Madison
Notre Dame students will lead elementary students in a series of "squishy circuits" - a project that allows kids to create circuits and explore electronics using play dough.

Friday, Feb. 26, 12:30-2 p.m. - Madison
Notre Dame students will lead Design/Build/Test activities in each classroom based on grade level:
Kindergartners - Build bean stalks out of pipe cleaners that must hold a plastic egg at the top.
First grade - Construct towers out of straws and duct tape.
Second/third grades - Build mouse traps (similar to the board game, but out of arts and crafts supplies).
Fourth grade - Build satellites that must incorporate their circuits from the day before.
