A 10-month-old baby is currently in stable condition at the University of Chicago Hospital after sustaining burns from cooking oil. 

The incident happened on Sunday, July 30 at a home on Union Road near Walkerton.

The baby was being rushed to the Bremen Hospital when emergency responders intercepted the vehicle in Lapaz and began emergency care.

A helicopter was then summoned, and the child was transported to Chicago.

An investigation is underway, but police say all the evidence so far indicates it was an accident.

No names have been released.
