12-year-old boy shot during road rage incident on I-465

ABC 57

BEECH GROVE, Ind. -- A 12-year-old boy is hospitalized after being shot while riding in the backseat during a road rage incident on I-465 at approximately 1:35 p.m. today.

First responders were dispatched to a crash on Emerson Avenue at the ramp from I-465 westbound at approximately 1:35 p.m.

Upon arriving, Beach Grove Police discovered two vehicles with damage from the crash.

One of the vehicles, a black Honda SUV, carried a 12-year-old child with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.

The 12-year-old was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

There were also what police say to be multiple bullet holes in the rear driver's side of the SUV.

The occupants of the other vehicle, involved in the crash but not the road rage incident, were transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Also inside the black SUV was an infant who is said to not have been injured but was taken to the hospital out of precaution.

Shortly after the crash, the Indiana Metropolitan Police Department and Indiana State Police located the other vehicle that is believed to be involved in the road rage shooting incident.

The vehicle had multiple bullet holes in it and was abandoned, but officers located who they believe is the driver in a nearby residence.

This is still an active and ongoing investigation and Indiana State Police Detectives have talked to all the people involved in this incident.

Crime Scene Investigators also responded to photograph the scene and collect evidence.
