12-Year-old Elkhart pedestrian hit by pickup truck dies

ELKHART, Ind. – The 12-year-old pedestrian that was hit by a pickup truck on CR 108 in Elkhart has died Thursday morning from injuries sustained in the accident.

Dajeianna Smith was struck Wednesday and was airlifted from the scene with trauma to the head and chest area. Neighbors said they found Smith lying in the road near a tree

The 56-year-old driver from Edwardsburg said he didn't see the young girl walking along the road, He said when he hit something, people began to shout at him.

The investigation into this accident is still ongoing.
