12-year-old hit by vehicle while walking to bus stop

MISHAWAKA, Ind. - A 12-year-old student was hit by a vehicle while walking to a bus stop Tuesday morning, according to the Mishawaka Police Department. The student was injured in the foot.

The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Indiana Avenue and Lincolnway East.

According to police, the 12-year-old was walking to a Transpo stop in the area when he walked behind a vehicle to cross the street.

As he did so, he was hit by a dark-colored vehicle that was turning north onto Indiana.

Police said the driver then left the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital a couple of hours later with a fractured foot.

The Mishawaka Police Department Traffic Bureau is investigating.
