13-year-old dies in crash in LaGrange County

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. - A 13-year-old died and five others were injured in a two-vehicle crash on State Road 5 on Friday, according to the LaGrange County Sheriff's Department.

At 3:43 p.m., a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville was traveling south on S.R. 5, at the intersection of County Road 700 South, when it allegedly turned in front of a northbound 2009 Ford Fusion.

The Pontiac was struck on the passenger side.

The 17-year-old driver of the Pontiac and three juvenile passengers were taken to the hospital for their injuries.

Lybie Miller, 13, of Ligonier was eventually flown to a different hospital but later died from her injuries.

The driver of the Ford and a 17-month-old passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Both drivers and all passengers except for Miller were wearing seatbelts, according to deputies.
