18-year-old high schooler from Union Mills charged with having a gun, drugs on school property

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A high schooler is in custody after allegedly having drugs and a gun in his vehicle on school property.

18-year-old Nayden Thornton is charged with a felony Possession of a Firearm on School Property charge, as well as possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Marijuana misdemeanors.

The arrest was made around 8:30 a.m. the morning of October 1. Officers were called to the campus of South Central Community School Corporation on reports of a student acting suspiciously.

A sheriff's deputy allegedly found the gun in Thornton's vehicle; he was then taken into custody.

Thornton is currently in custody at the La Porte County Jail.
