19-year-old bicyclist seriously injured in crash on Linden Avenue
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.—A 19-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured in a crash on Linden Ave. on September 26.
On Thursday evening around 8:18 p.m., officers with the South Bend Police Department were sent to the area of Linden Ave. and Edison Ave. regarding a crashing involving a vehicle and a bicyclist.
Police found the bicyclist, identified as Dylan Robert Frederick Mayers, 19, of South Bend, to be seriously injured.
Mayers was taken to the hospital and as of Friday, he was in critical condition with head and internal injuries in the ICU, police said.
The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team (FACT) took over the investigation.
Investigators found that a car was traveling westbound on Linden Ave. and struck Mayers, who was riding his bicycle westbound on the north side of Linden Ave.
The 42-year-old female driver of the car remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.
The incident remains under investigation and toxicology results are pending.
